Mini Bio

I’m a 37 year young stay at home mom that’s been obsessed with nail polish for 27 years now….yup….since i was 10 and finally allowed to start wearing the stuff!! When I’m not going polish crazy I like to relax with a good book, spend time with my family and craft….i make jewelry too!

Silly Lily was one of my first encounters that led me into the awesome world of indie polish.  I knew what it was, but hadn’t yet ventured into purchasing from etsy, or even searching through the huge selection of brands out there.  What I wanted was a black and red polish, and that’s when I found my first (but not only!) polish from Silly Lily. Black n Red and Matte All Over.

Lily’s sweet and helpful customer service, through our messaging (not to mention fantastic polishes!) led me to searching for more great unique polishes.  So, between Lily and Erin of Piper Polish, I blame them for starting my latest polish obsession 😉

With that said, onto the polishes!  Above is “Royale”.  A clear base with (here I’ve polishes it over a purple) purple and gold glitters of all shapes and sizes.  One coat, then a thick coat of your topcoat of choice, and you’re good to go!  More than one coat, in my opinion, would be overkill.  There is so much going on in this polish, that to properly appreciate it all, one coat is all you need.

IMG_4244

IMG_4242

“Rainbow Crush” (over taupe) is a clear polish filled with shreds in a rainbow of colors 🙂  This is another polish that I think is best worn over the color of your choice, but with only one coat.  Lily is so generous with the amount of goodies she adds to her polishes, that all you need is one even coat to appreciate everything about it.

I have no idea how to describe “Swamp Juice”, but it is a really cool looking polish 🙂  I think it’s full of silvery, grey/blue flakies.  Normally, I would wear Swamp Juice over a dark color, but I wanted to show it’s true color….this took 2 coats.  To see the color changing effect it has, you have to wear it over black or another dark color, and of course…the camera had a hard time picking out the color shifting, but it can be seen ever so slightly in the close up photo of the bottle.

“After The Storm”….I can see why it would be named this.  It looks like a beautiful disaster! lol 🙂 Not in a bad way,  just  a lot of everything.  Like the mess after a big storm, but pretty and colorful 🙂  A unique nail each time the brush is dipped into the polish.  It was a little hard to arrange the glitter pieces so they were evenly spread, but it was worth it.  It’s a fantastic mash up of hex, shreds, tinsel and maybe some diamonds or squares….the only thing I would have done differently, would be having two layers of topcoat instead of just one.

Lily has great polishes and adorable handmade jewellery pieces, here at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SillyLilyPolish  Check her out!

Mesmerizing......

Mesmerizing……isn’t it?

Piper Polish’s Spectraflair Topcoat is a holo polish lovers DREAM!! 🙂  Really and truly, this is the best quality I have come across.  Last year, I heard about using Spectraflair in nail polish….and became obsessed with either finding a place to purchase spectraflair (everywhere I found sold it in huge expensive quantities, or tiny expensive quantities…) or finding a genuine spectraflair topcoat.

Four brands later – Piper Polish came out the winner by a LONG shot.  Maybe it’s because the other brands I tried were not very generous with the amount of Spectraflair pigment they added, so it wasn’t as brilliant….don’t know, don’t care 🙂  I’m sticking with this brand.  Not to mention, she has exceptional customer service.  When I purchased more of the topcoat a few months later, there was a a bit of hiccup with the order  – and Erin made sure it was resolved in a snap!

Walk This Way

IMG_4454

Walk this Way is a polish that Erin sent to me to include in the blogathon, and I don’t think it has been listed in her shop as yet.  So, I’m not sure about whether or not this has some spectraflair pigment added – it looks like it to me 🙂  Aside from that unknown, what I do know is – it applies smoothly, and opaque with two coats.  Purple usually isn’t a color I wear, but this is sort of a purple/grey that really intrigues me – definitely one I will purchase in full size when it’s available 🙂

London Fog

London Fog…oh, London Fog – what did I do to you?  It deserved to be swatched much better than what I was able to do.  The navy blue/grey jelly base is smooth, the square opal/blue/green glitter pieces were easily picked up by the brush – but I still couldn’t do it justice.  Don’t blame the polish 😉

Glitter Bomb!  This was made for me! (not really, but it may as well have been 🙂 lol)  When I swatched this, I wanted to be able to show off the mix of glitters (sizes, shapes, colors! wheee!) – so, I resisted and only applied one coat over a beige base.  But, if you look at the etsy listing for Glitter Bomb, you can see it swatched in full coverage.  Awwwwesome!!!!

Sneak Peak – Mommy Loves Nail Polish PRESENTS the: Indie Polish Blogathon!

(just a quick edit to add – if anyone is, or knows a brand or polish creator who may want to be included – feel free to send me an email through the “about.me” link on the right side)

Sneak Peak – Mommy Loves Nail Polish PRESENTS the:

Indie Polish Blogathon!

What is this blogathon thing she’s talking about? you may be asking yourself…well, let me give you a little bit of information 🙂

I think a lot of us polish loving freaks (you know, I say that with love) know of indie polish.  Some might only be aware of the well known indie  brands who have had a lot of success, and started selling their polish in multiple online retailers.  I think that is fantastic for them, and they deserve the success, they have worked hard.

Saying that, this blogathon will probably not include any of them.  But, only because I know they are already well known.

The focus of this blogathon is going to be new brands, lesser known brands, some brands that have been around a while, but have chosen not to go big time…and really,  just a few of my favorites 😉

Event will begin sometime in the first week or so of February, and last as long as it takes me to get through all of the brands (15-20 brands!!  3 – 6 polishes each!!).  Each day will have different brand featured, with as much information I can include.

  • Where to buy
  • Where they do or do not ship to.
  • Approximate pricing.
  • Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest links.
  • Background history on the brand and it’s creator(s)
  • Maybe some discount codes here and there.
  • Of course, swatches!!

Some brands I chose specifically, and some have contacted me to be included.  This won’t be a review of good or bad brands or polishes.  I am just trying to promote all of these fantastic brands, and hopefully give you fellow polish freaks, a few new options when purchasing polish.  I may give my opinion if I have any personal stories regarding the brands – otherwise….just the facts 🙂

Oh, and – I am not being paid for anything I will be posting.

Unfortunately, a lot of other great indie brands won’t ship to Canada (for reasons I completely understand) – so I urge you to search online (etsy.com is a great place to find a large selection of indie polish brands) and work your way through the many, many results you will get – and find some of those lesser known indie brands and check out their shop.  You won’t be sorry!

Onto the Sneak Peak:

Piper Polish is a brand I first discovered while  obsessively searching for spetraflair over the summer.  This was before I knew Etsy even existed, so I ended up finding her Spetraflair topcoat on ebay.  I have since purchased more spectraflair top coat from Piper Polish on Etsy, as well as this below pictured polish.  Her customer service is beyond extraordinary, and the polishes I have tried so far, are super.

I hope to have a bit of background on Piper Polish, and it’s creator Erin, when I do her full feature post within the blogathon.

Well, that’s about it for now.  I hope, if nothing else, this post gets you curious to check out some of the indie polishes available – and even better, hopefully this post will get you to follow the blogathon when it starts in February 😉

Cheers!  Catch ya later!

Creations By Bailey – Great Glitter (a polish created by my 5 years old son)

Ok, so the “line” of polish only consists of one polish.  It is truly a “one of a kind”…hey, maybe it will be worth something someday if he ever becomes famous?!  LOL

My son, Bailey asked if he could make a polish for me.  Out came the glitters, mica’s, mixing balls, tiny scoop, tiny funnel and an empty bottle of Seche.

He choose the mica color Black Star Blue for the base – which turned out to be a matte black.  As for the glitters we added – I can’t even count the amount he choose.  Some tiny pink and turquoise holo glitter – matte green, pink and white glitter squares, small black hex glitter and I asked him to add some silver holographic powder/dust.  (at least all of these, if not more 🙂 )

And it actually didn’t turn out too bad.  He named it “Great Glitter” by “Creations by Bailey” 🙂

(by the way – I did all of the hands on stuff, he just supervised and told me what to do.  Just in case anyone thought I was letting him do this on his own)

Swatches – Nicole by Opi, Sephora by Opi and Lush Lacquer

Lots and lots of pictures in this post!

First….I am soooo excited that my local shopping center opened a Sephora store!!  I have never been into one of their actual stores – just the website.  So, needless to say…Sephora gift cards are now top of my list for Santa to get me for Christmas 🙂

Sephora is certainly not an inexpensive store, so while I wanted to buy tons of nail polish and nail paraphernalia – I resisted and just purchased one polish…for now 🙂

Sephora by Opi  “S-age is Just a Number”   A unique gold/green/rust duo (three-o) tone polish, and is perfectly opaque in two coats.

IMG_3578IMG_3581IMG_3579

IMG_3561

And I ventured to polish my right hand in another Opi (Nicole by Opi “You’re S-Teal The One”) that I planned on photographing as well.  But, the precise reason why I rarely show my right hand in posts…is because I am really bad polishing with my left – and this is no exception… sorry 🙂  it’s a very pretty color though!

IMG_3575IMG_3577

There is a slight purple duo tone thing happening with this polish, but it’s very hard to capture in photos.  Trust me, it’s amazing in person!  Mind you, I did need 4 (FOUR!!) coats to get the actual blue you see in the bottle.

IMG_3573

IMG_3572

IMG_3565

And last, but not least – a glitter top coat by Lush Lacquer called Tree-mendous.

A clear polish with mainly small green glitter, and a mixture of a slightly larger gold/yellow/pink/blue/purple/red/orange hex glitter and yellow stars.  As with any polish with chunkier multi size glitter, the best application was to dab it on and then smooth out and add a thick top coat.  Lots of all of the glitter goodies each dip of the brush 🙂

These photos are with Tree-mendous polished over Sephora by Opi “S-age is just a number”

That’s all!!  Have a fantastic day! 🙂
