Another striping tape mani! (step by step)

I tried this sponging/striping tape manicure a little while back – and for a first try, it seemed to turn out pretty good.

After all of these challenges and being “told” what my manicures were going to be – I had the need to break free!! (lol whatever) and since I am not terribly original….I decided to try the striping tape mani again.   (I have to pull out my stamping supplies again…but I was so frustrated to past few times I used them….they went to the back of the drawer)

Not that I am any kind of expert to be giving “tutorials” – but, I will go step by step in what I did throughout the “process” 🙂

Step1 – I polished my nails with 2 coats of Nubar’s Stardust, and polished one finger with Nicole by OPI “Shoot for the Maroon” and topped it with Seche Vite, and let it dry for 10 minutes (to make sure all of the layers were dry)

Step 2 – I cut a ton of strips of nail striping tape, and then firmly applied them to each finger nail.

Step 3 – with a piece of sponge, and a puddle of “Shoot for the Maroon” I dabbed the sponge in the polish and sponged gently onto the “Stardust” nails – until I was pleased with how much I had applied.  Then did the same with the “Shoot for the Maroon” nail, but used a gold polish to sponge on instead.

Step 4 – Gently peel off striping tape – one piece at a time.

Step 5 – clean off the polish from skin and cuticles and add top coat.

The final result!!

Frankenpolish Fun!

While waiting for my nails to grow, and have them look pretty when polished… 🙂  I started up again with another polish hobby of mine.  Frankenpolishing!!

I don’t make polish to sell, just for fun.  And I don’t have all of the proper supplies (polish base, glitter base etc.) but I do have a selection of glitters, and cosmetic grade powders…from TKB Trading. (love that store!! I also purchase mini polish bottles and containers from them), and a ton of cheap nail polish I use to make my Frankens with!

There is one polish I have been trying to create for quite some time now, and I just have not had any luck.  The main problem… the glitter I want to add all bleeds.  Therefore, the red adds pink into the polish, the black adds grey – so the end result is poo colored polish with glitter that has no color left on it.
But, just about a month ago, I noticed TKB was carrying the exact glitter I was looking for AND it was specifically SOLVENT RESISTANT!! No bleeding!

Here we go!  The first polish, is the one I have been trying to make for a while now….and the only one I didn’t name….(suggestions welcome :))

The base I used was made from half white polish, half clear.

These polishes I actually named.  They aren’t good names, but they are names 🙂

This one is named: Fudge with Sprinkles

A mixture of approx half and half of this brown duo-tone and opal holographic glitter polish.

I also added a small scoop of holographic glitter, and a small scoop of Gold Dust (off-white with a golden sheen)

The last franken I made, was a glitter polish I like to call: Mermaid Puke  (lol that was fun naming :))

This polish started with an old Essense polish I had – I cant remember the name, but it was about half full of a very pale pink holo glitter.  After I added all of the additional glitter I wanted, I just topped it off with a clear polish.

Also, I need to make note that my cuticles were in AWFUL shape, so as you can see I went a little crazy adding the wording to try and cover how icky they looked 🙂

Hopefully, this extremely photo heavy post didn’t crash your program 🙂  And I also hope you have a fun Cyber Monday!

Day 5 Last Day- Growing my nails with Essie!

Nobody was hoping this would work, more than I was…but I must now, finally admit – I wasted $10.

Now, I am not saying anything bad about the quality of Essie in general, or even Essie “Grow Faster” – my nails are most definitely in better shape after faithfully applying Grow Faster for 5 days.  Just not longer.

I’m not even sure that I actually thought it would work, right from the start.  Because logically…the growing of the nail, happens before it starts appearing on our nail bed (I think) – so, applying product to grow your nails…while pretty much impossible… would have to happen before the nail grows out from under the cuticle area.

Another thing I heard (true or not?  I don’t don’t know for sure)…is that your dominant hand, will usually have the quicker nail growth.
Well, anyways….it was an interesting experiment.  Thank you for all of your encouragement this past week (I was sure I would get some comments about how gross my yellow nails are….but, nope!)

Here are my final pictures (please pardon the blurry photos…some little sticky fingers were touching the lens before I realized, and after the photos were taken)

Day 4 – Growing my nails with Essie!

Well, I am beginning to think that Essie Grow Faster, was a waste of $10.  My nails are finally growing (yay!) but both hands seems to be growing at the same rate.  Or maybe “27% longer” is way, way, way smaller than I thought it would be 😉

Here’s day 4!!

One more day to go for Essie to do it’s magic!  🙂

And just for comparisons sake….. day 1 vs day 4

(Original Post Below)

After do a little bit of research – I came to the conclusion, that Essie “Grow Faster” was going to be my treatment of choice while growing my nails back.

Essie claims, on the box “5 day growth treatment – up to 27% longer nails in 5 days”

I have no idea how to determine whether my nails have grown 27% more, or what – but I will know if they grow more….if I use Essie Grow Faster on one hand, and nothing on the other.

So that is what I will do – and I will take pictures and let you know how it goes!

Day 3 – Growing my nails with Essie!

I am starting to think, maybe I need more calcium or something in my diet.  My nails don’t look like they have grown even the tiniest fraction.  But, I will post day 3, and a bit of a collage of days 1, 2 and 3  – maybe someone else see’s a little growth?

One problem I have noticed with my photos is, the side (right hand) with the olive oil, is too shiny in the pics to see anything.  I will try different lighting tonight 🙂

Also, I am not filing – so that is why they look extra icky.  Hubby has promised a spa trip for my upcoming bday, so I will book a “professional” manicure then 🙂

Holo with Glitter? I’m in love!

With my stubby little nails still growing to a decent length, I thought I would dig into my mani photo archives and post this lost gem 🙂

Unfortunately, I didn’t make note of the colors I used.  Basically, I used a blue holographic base color, then taped a “V” shape and painted on the glitter polish.  After adding the topcoat, I stuck on a couple of colored gems, and voila!!

I like this one, quite a bit actually.  Wonder why I never posted it?  Oh well!!  Enjoy your Sunday!!
