Mini Bio

I’m new to the world of nail polish. If I had bothered to look, I would’ve learned that it comes in every possible color now, not just the pinks and reds I remember from childhood.

As an art undergrad who became a burned-out computer jockey, I missed making physical things. I pondered selling crafts for a long while but waffled on what to pursue. When I learned of indie polish, it instantly appealed to me.

Onto the pictures!

Every one of the polishes that i received from Cherie was extremely appealing.  The application was beautiful and smooth – no need for a top coat.  The drying time was quick, but no so quick that there was shrinking.  And they were all duo or multi chromes – which is a big plus for me!  I loooove color shifting polish, just about as much as I love glitter…..and I LOVE glitter! 🙂

IMG_4818

So, the picture I have shown first – just my nails polished with a peachy colored polish -it’s the color my nails were polished as a base to the first of the Sinister Benediction polishes:

Purple Moon

The next polish shifts from brown to purple to green, and is very hard to show it’s dramatic shifting on camera – but trust me….AMAZING!IMG_4828

Last, but not least at all – is a polish that shifts from a navy to bright blue, to a purply pink and a hint of gold if the light hits it *just so*.  This one is my favorite of the 3 🙂

Told ya, didn’t I ?!?!  😉  Awesome!

Sinister Benediction may be a newer store, but I have no doubt that with Cherie’s talent for creating eye catching unique polishes – we’ll be seeing Sinister Benediction polishes a lot in the world of indie polishes.

Be sure to visit www.etsy.com/shop/SinisterBenediction and check out Cherie’s polish creations!

Cherie will be setting her shop to “vacation mode” at the end of March, so she can fully enjoy all the joys of moving 😉 So, if you see anything you like, best order it now (and use the discount code!)…..because as most of us know, getting back into the swing of things after a move can be challenging (to say the least) and she isn’t sure how long she will need before reopening her etsy shop.

Mini Bio

Hi! I’m Tara. I’m 23 years old. I made polish after learning about other indie brands. I started my own shop while I was pregnant with my son shortly before my maternity leave as a means to make extra money. Since then it has blossomed into a wonderful project that I enjoy every day. I take custom requests if there’s something that you are interested in having me make. As well as can make almost any bottle into a full sized bottle. It only depends if it’s an almost discontinued shade.

Onto Tara’s fantastic polishes!

Scream – Michael Jackson Polish

IMG_4570

IMG_4571

IMG_4572

This is Tara’s version of a black and white glitter polish with a clear base.  I swear, I never get bored with the many versions of the black and white glitter indie.  There are so many out there, and not one of them is the same.  Tara’s for example, is all shreds – I’ve seen hex, tinsel and dots, but this is the first with shreds.  Very cool 🙂  Applies smoothly and generously, without any pieces curing up and out of the top coat.  This was one layer over taupe and one layer of Seche Vite topcoat.

I Killed The Teen Dream – Jawbreaker Nail Polish

IMG_4573

IMG_4574

IMG_4575

Inspired by the movie Jawbreaker, but all I can see is exact dupe of It’s A Trap-eze by China Glaze.  AWESOME!  I love that polish!

I used a mint green base, and applied two coats of It’s a Trap-eze…. I Killed the Teen Dream on all but my ring finger I used Seche Vite, on my ring finger I used a matte top coat.  It looks great in person!  Definitely wearing it with matte on top next time 🙂

I Ain’t Saying She’s A Gold Digger – Kayne West Nail Polish

IMG_4590

IMG_4729

IMG_4591

Tara says in her description of “I ain’t sayin she’s a gold digger” that’s it’s her dupe of the gold flake polish by OPI (the Skyfall collection)  I think it’s better 🙂  Yes, having real 18k gold flakes on your nails is pretty cool as a conversation starter – but when it comes down to it – there are a very sparse amount of gold flakes on your nails….and even that small amount had to be fished out of the bottle, and manipulated and spread around.  Pain in the behind.  (In my humble opinion , of course).

The gold flakes in “I ain’t sayin she’s a gold digger”  come out of the bottle like they’re fighting for attention.  So many!  And they spread out on the nail evenly (you can see how smooth the surface of my nails are).  With a nice shiny topcoat, those babies glitter like gold!…. wait…..oh never mind!

Kitty

IMG_4600

IMG_4601

IMG_4602

What can I say about this polish?  Blue is my absolute favorite color, whenever and however I see it – so this gets an automatic “LOVE IT!” from me 🙂   The application is smooth.  Opaque with two coats.  The shimmer gives it a unique soft look in one light, and shiny metallic in another. The blue, green and purple matte hex glitters stick to the brush nicely, so you don’t have to fish them out.  What else?….Oh!  This polish lasted 3 days before I noticed any chipping or wear at the tips.

Wasn’t On The Guest List – Empire Records Nail Polish

IMG_4595

IMG_4598

IMG_4596

My problem child polish! 🙂  I had no issues with any of the polishes, until I came to “Wasn’t on the Guest List”!  Such an amazing and beautiful metallic pink….but those stubborn little glitter pieces decided they didn’t want to come out and play 😦  I think it was personal…they were upset I waited until last to swatch this one.

I managed to get a few out, but it seems what happened to my bottle was, the majority of the glitter stuck themselves to the inside of the glass and wouldn’t loosen off.  I mentioned it to Tara, and she assured me that this was not the norm, so rest assured, if you decide to purchase one of these – you will not have this same issue.  And you know what, even if you do – that fantastic pink makes up for it 🙂   I would have been more than happy to wear the pink all by itself (and I don’t even like pink!)

Go check out Tara’s Nail Art and see for yourself her adorable polishes 🙂

I’m a 37 year young stay at home mom that’s been obsessed with nail polish for 27 years now….yup….since i was 10 and finally allowed to start wearing the stuff!! When I’m not going polish crazy I like to relax with a good book, spend time with my family and craft….i make jewelry too!

IMG_4024

IMG_4028

IMG_4027

Silly Lily was one of my first encounters that led me into the awesome world of indie polish.  I knew what it was, but hadn’t yet ventured into purchasing from etsy, or even searching through the huge selection of brands out there.  What I wanted was a black and red polish, and that’s when I found my first (but not only!) polish from Silly Lily. Black n Red and Matte All Over.

Lily’s sweet and helpful customer service, through our messaging (not to mention fantastic polishes!) led me to searching for more great unique polishes.  So, between Lily and Erin of Piper Polish, I blame them for starting my latest polish obsession 😉

With that said, onto the polishes!  Above is “Royale”.  A clear base with (here I’ve polishes it over a purple) purple and gold glitters of all shapes and sizes.  One coat, then a thick coat of your topcoat of choice, and you’re good to go!  More than one coat, in my opinion, would be overkill.  There is so much going on in this polish, that to properly appreciate it all, one coat is all you need.

IMG_4241

IMG_4244

IMG_4242

“Rainbow Crush” (over taupe) is a clear polish filled with shreds in a rainbow of colors 🙂  This is another polish that I think is best worn over the color of your choice, but with only one coat.  Lily is so generous with the amount of goodies she adds to her polishes, that all you need is one even coat to appreciate everything about it.

IMG_4519

IMG_4522

IMG_4520

I have no idea how to describe “Swamp Juice”, but it is a really cool looking polish 🙂  I think it’s full of silvery, grey/blue flakies.  Normally, I would wear Swamp Juice over a dark color, but I wanted to show it’s true color….this took 2 coats.  To see the color changing effect it has, you have to wear it over black or another dark color, and of course…the camera had a hard time picking out the color shifting, but it can be seen ever so slightly in the close up photo of the bottle.

IMG_4403

IMG_4526

IMG_4528

IMG_4527

“After The Storm”….I can see why it would be named this.  It looks like a beautiful disaster! lol 🙂 Not in a bad way,  just  a lot of everything.  Like the mess after a big storm, but pretty and colorful 🙂  A unique nail each time the brush is dipped into the polish.  It was a little hard to arrange the glitter pieces so they were evenly spread, but it was worth it.  It’s a fantastic mash up of hex, shreds, tinsel and maybe some diamonds or squares….the only thing I would have done differently, would be having two layers of topcoat instead of just one.

Lily has great polishes and adorable handmade jewellery pieces, here at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SillyLilyPolish  Check her out!

Our company was started as a side shop to our skincare shop . We love nail polish, always have, but also love creating too.  This shop started as a way to raise funds to do fun things with my autistic son…like our first trip to Mexico together.

This is the most recent polish I received from Indie Polish.  I’m not sure if this is an official collection, but there are several polishes named after super heroes and super villains – and as soon as my son saw this polish was named Harley Quinn – he was inspired to create (meaning supervise me and tell me what to do :)) a nail polish inspired by the Riddler.  I think I have a polish making little man, in training!

My sons Riddler polish inspired by Harley Quinn polish.

Back on topic….Harley Quinn has a lovely smooth application.  If not for the few bumps I wanted to smooth out with topcoat,  from the glitter, it would be one of those paint and go polishes.  Smooth, shiny, two coats and off you go!  The color reminds me of a yummy strawberry syrup…with a bit of shimmer and holo glitter 🙂  Yummm!

This is a really unique polish that is very hard to capture on camera.  Just a hint of blue in the base, with mixtures of tinsel, hex and shreds – in silver, holo and a few dark reddish colors.  It appears in the bottle to be sheer, but with just 2 coats, a beautiful shimmery silver covers the black base color I used.

With the many glitter types in this polish, you do need a coat or two of Gelous or Seche – I applied one layer of Seche, and probably would have been more satisfied with two coats – some may only want one coat 🙂  Whatever your preference, this is a great looking polish!

When did Mariah Carey’s sand polish get released?  🙂  I think Indie Polish released theirs first!  Love it or hate it – sand polish is the latest trend, and here is a handmade/hand blended version.  Personally, I am still on the fence.  With this polish, and the Mariah Carey/OPI version both in my helmer….I have to admit, there is not much of a difference between the two brands, when it comes to texture.  Matte Tar Sands has a black base, so it’s a little difficult to see the glitter, but it’s there: silver, copper and green glitter.

They did a great job creating a texture polish – and whether or not you like this new trend, this is a good version of it.  No denying that fact 🙂

Purple People Eater over dark blue base.

IMG_4385 IMG_4387 IMG_4388

Whatever suspension base they are using is good stuff!  This polish has that really great, smooth, shiny application that Harley Quinn had.   “Purple People Eater” has all of the glittery goodness I like in an indy polish – but what I like the most (and what they don’t mention in their description….I don’t think) is that, if you apply this polish alone, it applies just like you see in the bottle – but as soon as you pair this polish with a dark base coat, a wonderful surprising multi chrome (purple/blue/green) appears along with the glitter.  That was an awesome discovery for me!

“Indie Polish” brand started with only a few choices back in December 2012 when I first found their store on etsy – but within the past couple of months, they have re-branded and recreated their shop and have (approx?) tripled the amount of polish creations available for sale.  Definitely a brand to keep an eye on.  A lot of the polishes are only created in batches of 2 or 3 – so, if you see something you like….best grab it up when you see it 🙂

Check out my fellow Canadian over at http://www.etsy.com/shop/IndiePolish – you will be sure to find a polish or two to use that coupon code on! (MLNB10)

Mesmerizing......

Mesmerizing……isn’t it?

Piper Polish’s Spectraflair Topcoat is a holo polish lovers DREAM!! 🙂  Really and truly, this is the best quality I have come across.  Last year, I heard about using Spectraflair in nail polish….and became obsessed with either finding a place to purchase spectraflair (everywhere I found sold it in huge expensive quantities, or tiny expensive quantities…) or finding a genuine spectraflair topcoat.

Four brands later – Piper Polish came out the winner by a LONG shot.  Maybe it’s because the other brands I tried were not very generous with the amount of Spectraflair pigment they added, so it wasn’t as brilliant….don’t know, don’t care 🙂  I’m sticking with this brand.  Not to mention, she has exceptional customer service.  When I purchased more of the topcoat a few months later, there was a a bit of hiccup with the order  – and Erin made sure it was resolved in a snap!

Walk This Way

IMG_4277

IMG_4454

Walk this Way is a polish that Erin sent to me to include in the blogathon, and I don’t think it has been listed in her shop as yet.  So, I’m not sure about whether or not this has some spectraflair pigment added – it looks like it to me 🙂  Aside from that unknown, what I do know is – it applies smoothly, and opaque with two coats.  Purple usually isn’t a color I wear, but this is sort of a purple/grey that really intrigues me – definitely one I will purchase in full size when it’s available 🙂

London Fog…oh, London Fog – what did I do to you?  It deserved to be swatched much better than what I was able to do.  The navy blue/grey jelly base is smooth, the square opal/blue/green glitter pieces were easily picked up by the brush – but I still couldn’t do it justice.  Don’t blame the polish 😉

Glitter Bomb!  This was made for me! (not really, but it may as well have been 🙂 lol)  When I swatched this, I wanted to be able to show off the mix of glitters (sizes, shapes, colors! wheee!) – so, I resisted and only applied one coat over a beige base.  But, if you look at the etsy listing for Glitter Bomb, you can see it swatched in full coverage.  Awwwwesome!!!!

Original and eccentric is how we like things around here. A lot of sparkle and a ton of glitz. As a self proclaimed nail polish junkie, I thought I’d apply my skills for putting some awesome pretties together for all to enjoy! All of my items are made by hand with care. We pack and ship personally so your order will be sent out promptly!

We can Pickle That (two layers, no base color)

The first thing that got me about this polish was the name 🙂 I needed a polish in my collection called “We can Pickle That”!!  Once I used it – I found that it applied evenly, and opaque with 3 coats.  Probably, I should have used a second coat of Seche to make it a glassier finish, but I’m still very pleased with the end results this polish created 🙂

IMG_4144

After first trying “Put a Bird On It” by itself (see false nail swatch in photo) – my preference was to have a little bit of a darker blue as the base color.

With Matte Topcoat

“Put a Bird On It” with blue base color.

The glitter in this polish is to die for!  The polish it’s in…well…it could be me, but I had a few problems with the application.  It is extremely sheer, but that is how it was created.  My issue in the application of it was, that if I didn’t want it to have streaks, I needed to add another coat – when I added another coat, it started getting thick looking.

As it turned out, the way I resolved this, was to have a matte topcoat.  Once that was applied (why didn’t I take more pictures???) it looked great.  Which is strange, because matte polishes or adding a matte topcoat usually show all of the hidden flaws.  Oh well, whatever works 🙂

Static Age over a Jade Holographic Teal – LOOOOOOVE the way this manicure turned out!  Two coats of the base color, one coat of Static Age, and one coat of Seche.   It was just that easy!  Static Age has it’s own unique qualities and not “just another black and white glitter” that most indie brands have a version of.  Yes, it has black and white various sized glitters and strands – but there was some holographic strands, squares and hex glitters – and if you know me….if it’s got holo…it makes me happy 🙂
