Layla Soft Touch Turquoise Splash… Part 2 – Without a top coat!

As I mentioned in yesterdays post, I was a bit of  bubble brain when I originally did my first mani with Layla Soft Touch Turquoise Splash…..no top coat required.

THESE images are what the polish is really supposed to look like 🙂

Layla Soft Touch Turquoise Splash

Such a beautiful polish – unfortunately, I didn’t realize until after I finished this manicure (this was from a few weeks back) that it shouldn’t have a top coat, if you want to have the “soft touch” effect.  (almost matte, but not quite….just soft…as they say 🙂 )

So, I will do a follow up post at another date, on (aside from the great color) how it will look without a shiny top coat 😉  (d’uh me, sorry lol)

Layla Bubbly Polish – Review / Photos

The best way for me to start this post is – Everything I will be writing is MY OPINION – I am not stating any of this as fact.  This is just my personal attempts / trials / fails / opinions.  Whether it has to do with the actual polish – I don’t know – but my observations and opinions are what I will be posting.

With that out of the way.  In my opinion…..THIS POLISH SUCKS!!  And if I were to offer advice, if someone asked…it would be – don’t spend your money on this polish.

This is what the website writes (once translated through google translator)

BUBBLY EFFECT NAIL POLISH & BUBBLY FIX. Turn your nails into a thousand colored bubbles. BUBBLY EFFECT is the last frontier of nail art “DIY”. With BUBBLY EFFECT will be easy to achieve unique and different for each application. The color of the enamel base will prove to be brazenly creating endless surprises. Changing the color of the enamel can get countless effects using a color BUBBLY EFFECT. BUBBLY EFFECT will give you the thrill of marbled nail art in one simple gesture. The evolutissima formulation BUBBLY requires the application of a fixative to ensure an optimal duration. LAYLA has BUBBLY FIX, the perfect companion to keep your nail art as long as possible. METHOD OF APPLICATION 1) Apply two coats of enamel want and allow it to dry. 2) Apply a thin layer end BUBBLY EFFECT Nail Polish cleaning excess product from the brush. Less product you use will create more bubbles on your nails. 3) When BUBBLY EFFECT is dry, apply the Top Coat BUBBLY FIX.

Attempt One:  2 layers of Essie Beach Bum Blu (which is beautiful by the way 🙂 so, I will add a couple of photos)

Then a top coat of Duri Brush n Go.

As the instructions said – I wiped off as much of the Bubbly polish from the brush and applied.

First outcome. Top coat with a matte finish so the photos didn't show any light reflections.

First attempt – thumb.

You will see I didn’t bother cleaning up my cuticles etc.  I just knew that it was pointless, since I was clearly going to be making more than a few tries 🙂  (sorry – normally I do care a lot more how my photos look)

Alright – chalk this try up to applying too much polish, and adding a topcoat to the color before the bubbly.

Attempt Two:

More bubbles, I guess? But you can only go over once with the brush, or you remove any bubbles that have started forming.

Second attempt - thumb. Even less polish on the brush...bubbles AND streaks.

Oyyyy, I am getting a sick feeling in my tummy after what I paid for this polish.

Attempt Three:

Better I guess...but still the issue of not being able to apply it properly to coat the full nail. (pinky nail must have had left over cuticle oil on it)

Ok, one more try and I GIVE UP!!!  This is just way too much work for a polish that has so many amazing claims of how wonderful it is.

Attempt Four:

That's it...no more. Into the Melmer until someone better than I, can put up a tutorial on how to apply Bubbly Effect properly! (matte coat again to show bubbles without glare)

I couldn’t even get it to clean off my skin nicely.  Something about this polish’s formula, doesn’t dissolve with acetone.  It loosens up, and kind of crumbles off (if that makes any sense) – but I wasn’t able to get smooth lines around the edges of my cuticles.

Free speech.  In my Opinion.  Apparently.  Allegedly.   Whichever one of those statements get me out of legal trouble for saying this.

Bubbly Effect is awful and I hate it!!!!!! (in my opinion 😉 )

Wow!  I feel so much better after saying that!!

Before I end this post and publish it…I was trying out this pretty “Peachy” by Revlon polish, this morning….and decided to give the white version of the bubbly a try, so here is the very last photo – I promise 🙂

EDITING TO ADD:  Here is a really cool way to get the look Bubbly Effect is supposed to do – but, via water warble!! http://www.megaport.hu/videok/video.php?vid=568e0c859

Layla on Sale at Hautelook.com Thursday Dec 6

FYI
Just passing on some sale news.

Hautelook.com is selling Layla on Thursday (Dec 6 2012).  And for anyone not familiar with Hautelook.com – it is a website that has limited date/limited quantity sales on brand named products at a phenomenal price. Beauty, clothing, household.

A couple of weeks they had Orly polishes on sale for 70% off.

So, as I was adding the Layla reminder to my calendar, I thought some of my polish buddies would like to know also 🙂  I have no idea what the deal is going to be – but worth a look.

Check out Hautelook.com December 6th if you want to see what Layla products are for sale, and at what discount.  Or, obviously – check them out at your own leisure 🙂

Gilty Holo Mani…. Pink is yucky, but I’ll make an exception…

I don’t like pink!!  Maybe my mother forced me to wear it once too often as a child, but I can’t bring myself to fall in love with any nail polish, makeup, clothing etc. that is mostly pink.

But, I made a wonderful exception with this manicure.  I have seen Gilty by Zoya over white, black, nude….but, so far, I have not seen it over pink…..well, a pink holo 🙂  Of course, I haven’t been looking all over the web, just the main nail blogs I follow – so, I am certainly not making the claim that it has never been done 😉

Anyhooo…I am pleased how this turned out.

The main nail polishes are Layla Holographic Retro Pink, and Zoya 18k Gilty topcoat.
