More stamping!

There must be one of those Murphy’s Laws, or a proverb in a fortune cookie, that says: when you are playing with your nail stamping, it will looks great – when you are trying to create an awesome manicure with stamping,  (that you want to post on your blog) – it will keep screwing up and looking gross 😦

If a saying doesn’t exist, I will have to figure out how to shorten that.   And make it one 🙂

I also tried a great idea by poundandprincess – which was to stamp on the Ghoulish Glow “glow in the dark” polish that came in the Wicked Collection.  It would have worked, if the polish was able to go on thicker – but the amount that gets left in the plate to get stamped, wasn’t enough to show up in the dark 😦  It was a good idea though!

Alas, I have a mediocre mani to show you, and have put away my stamping stuff in it’s drawer…for a long while.

My first try:

And, the next try:

Ohhh, it’s not that bad, I guess! 🙂

Have an awesome day!

Random things about nail stamping

These are just a few things I have made note to myself, while stamping.  do and don’ts.  Would you like to know?  Read on 🙂

Use acetone when cleaning your stamping equipment – not regular nail polish remover.  Unfortunately it isn’t strong enough to get everything in the nooks and cranny’s .  I have a acetone soaked cotton pad on the side to wipe the rubber stamper on, wipe the plate and clean the scraper after every try.

I have also purchased one of those plastic cutting boards from the dollar store to do my stamping on.  Best $1.25 I have spent to include in my nail stamping arsenal (when did dollar stores turn into dollar plus stores?)

The stamping process

DO NOT use any of the metal plate scrapers that may have come with whichever stamping kit you have purchased.  It will ruin the plate.  The cheapie plastic scrapers are the best for your plates, but they are not necessarily a smooth edge or perfectly flat edge.  You can take a gentle nail file to smooth the edge, or use a plastic card i.e. old gift card/credit card or my choice Dave & Busters card 🙂

DON’T press super hard when pulling the scraper across the image plate to remove the polish.  It will remove some of the polish in the grooves, and mess up the image when you pick it up with the rubber stamper.  Firmly and on an angle, but not pushing down, (and not straight up and down) pull the scraper across.

Picking up the image on the rubber stamper…. first wipe the stamper with the acetone soaked cotton pad.  It will remove all left over residue, dust, etc.

Roll the rubber stamper over the image quite quickly and firm, but not super fast or it might miss some of the polish – not too slow and hard, because it might smoosh the polish and you won’t pick up a clean sharp image.

Once the image is on the stamp, let it dry a bit – then line up where you want the print on your nail, and roll the stamper on the nail.  Fast or slow…you have to play with what image you are using.  I have found that I need to roll faster if it is a single smaller image, and slow when it’s a full nail stamp.

You will need a top coat – but here is something I have had issues with.  Some top coats drag the image and make it smear.  The top coats that I KNOW work well for me are: Seche Vite, and the clear top coat that come with the GCOCL “special” nail polishes for stamping.  The tops coats I KNOW haven’t worked for me, and smear, are: Nubar Diamont Seal and Shine, Nina Ultra Pro Super Dry Topcoat, and INM Out The Door.

Clean Up

Removing extra polish around the edges of the nail AKA cleaning up the nail.  I have picked up the fantastic technique from some of the seasoned nail polish bloggers out there, who have shared heir secrets.

Use a small flat brush (I will attach a pic) and dip in acetone.  As it is a flat brush, you can get right into the edges and wipe out all of the polish that isn’t on the nail.  If it is really messy, swish the brush in the acetone to clean off the polish, and wipe it on a paper towel and keep going with the clean up.

Qtips can leave behind little fluffy pieces, and cannot get right into the small areas for detailed clean up.  So, keep those for your ears 🙂

Immediately after the acetone clean up, wash your hand and fingers thoroughly and get some lotion or oil onto your cuticles.

If you plan on taking photos and blogging about your nails – this is something I have noticed, makes a blog look much more professional – and it only takes and extra minute or two in your entire manicure process.

And last, always research a brand before purchasing plates.  Konad and Bundle Monster are not the only brands out there – but they are REALLY good!  I have recently tried Fab Ur Nails by JAKS and GCOCL and really likes them as well.  There are other brands popping up all the time, so try and find images online from those brands before buying.

I just put together a pile of plates I purchased on ebay that are garbage – only about $1.50 average, but it adds up!  So, I would warn against the cheap hex shaped plates that are all over ebay – maybe some are great, but the odds are against that, unfortunately.

Storing your plates

I currently use a binder by Bundle Monster that is specific for holding stamping plate (but it only holds Konad and Bundle Monster size plates from my experience so far).

Or, I have heard that using those plastic sheets to hold baseball cards works just as well.

I hope there are a few bits and pieces that are helpful – and if my entire post is redundant/repetitious/tedious – my apologies 🙂  And, if you have other tidbits you can add, please feel free to add them in the comments area – they would be much appreciated:)

Happy Stamping!

Nail stamping (Konad , Bundle Monster) on top of Jade Hypnose

As the title says – here are some pics of my nail stamping play this evening 🙂  Once I did the Jade holo manicure, I decided to experiment with some of my new plates.

Heh heh 🙂  I love Angry Birds !

This one, you can barely make out – but it is a full nail stamp of snakeskin in green, and a skull on top in a sheer silver/grey.

Which one do you like best?  I think I like the “french” tip stamp of the spider web.  And of course, the Angry Bird is super cute 🙂

Halloween …. stamping, sparkles, crackles …..sounds exciting! Day 6

Yes, it sounds exciting, doesn’t it?   Hmmm, maybe not all that exciting – but I had fun doing it 🙂  I haven’t used any of my crackle polishes in a long time, and when I saw the Halloween manicure by blogger Frivalicious – I was inspired.

And here, may I present to you…. my piece de resistence (how the heck do you spell that??)

Voila !

And, by the way – as a side note to last night’s post about the new stamping stuff.  The XL stamper is great.  The FUN Fab Ur Nails stamping plate is great.  The skulls plate – not so much.  I tried all of the images, and the one on my thumb was the only one that worked really well.  And I haven’t tried the fruit plate (ha ha fruit plate!) yet.

Enjoy your day!!

Lucky Me! More Nail Stamping Stuff

Hello, Hello!

I am excited to show off a couple of things I have been waiting for (nail related, of course!)

In the above pic is a new stamping plate from Polish Ninja’s “FUN plate #1  by Fab ur Nails” and a new XL nail stamper that came with a couple of really quality plastic scrapers (also purchased a couple of new plates from the same ebay store, hope they work).

This is a close up of the images on the FUN plate #1 FAB UR NAILS by JAKS (ordered from Ninja Polish)

These (above) plates have some images that could work out to be really nice….. -<rant on> I just hope they are engraved deep enough.  I have ordered too many plates from random  stores on ebay, and they end up barely having the images scraped into them, and don’t hold the polish. <rant off 🙂 >

This is the XL stamper with small detail stamper.  When I heard this stamper existed – I had to have it and found here  from this ebay seller .  And below is why….

Well, as you can see – the standard size stamper (this one is Konad, and I LOVE everything else Konad, just not the size of their stamper) – the size can be too small for the full nail images quite often.  Wish me luck 🙂

Next post….more Skull Stamping!!  Stay Tuned

Skull Stomping!…I mean stamping ! Day 4 Halloween Manicure

Have you signed up to “Like” the new “Mommy Loves Nail Polish” Facebook page?

Promote your own blog!     Post your nail art pics!      I promise I won’t delete anything (unlike some other nail polish facebook pages out there), as long as it has to do with nails.  Go for it!!  🙂

Onto the manicure!

I like this one.  Love the Misa “Let’s go Green” base colour, and the crackling stamp in white with the black skulls stamped on the next layer…. worked out well.  In my humble opinion 🙂

What do you think?

See you next time!!  Cheers!!

ps I hope all of my fellow Canucks had an amazing Thanksgiving and fantastic long weekend.
