Mini Bio

I’m a 37 year young stay at home mom that’s been obsessed with nail polish for 27 years now….yup….since i was 10 and finally allowed to start wearing the stuff!! When I’m not going polish crazy I like to relax with a good book, spend time with my family and craft….i make jewelry too!

Silly Lily was one of my first encounters that led me into the awesome world of indie polish.  I knew what it was, but hadn’t yet ventured into purchasing from etsy, or even searching through the huge selection of brands out there.  What I wanted was a black and red polish, and that’s when I found my first (but not only!) polish from Silly Lily. Black n Red and Matte All Over.

Lily’s sweet and helpful customer service, through our messaging (not to mention fantastic polishes!) led me to searching for more great unique polishes.  So, between Lily and Erin of Piper Polish, I blame them for starting my latest polish obsession 😉

With that said, onto the polishes!  Above is “Royale”.  A clear base with (here I’ve polishes it over a purple) purple and gold glitters of all shapes and sizes.  One coat, then a thick coat of your topcoat of choice, and you’re good to go!  More than one coat, in my opinion, would be overkill.  There is so much going on in this polish, that to properly appreciate it all, one coat is all you need.

“Rainbow Crush” (over taupe) is a clear polish filled with shreds in a rainbow of colors 🙂  This is another polish that I think is best worn over the color of your choice, but with only one coat.  Lily is so generous with the amount of goodies she adds to her polishes, that all you need is one even coat to appreciate everything about it.

I have no idea how to describe “Swamp Juice”, but it is a really cool looking polish 🙂  I think it’s full of silvery, grey/blue flakies.  Normally, I would wear Swamp Juice over a dark color, but I wanted to show it’s true color….this took 2 coats.  To see the color changing effect it has, you have to wear it over black or another dark color, and of course…the camera had a hard time picking out the color shifting, but it can be seen ever so slightly in the close up photo of the bottle.

“After The Storm”….I can see why it would be named this.  It looks like a beautiful disaster! lol 🙂 Not in a bad way,  just  a lot of everything.  Like the mess after a big storm, but pretty and colorful 🙂  A unique nail each time the brush is dipped into the polish.  It was a little hard to arrange the glitter pieces so they were evenly spread, but it was worth it.  It’s a fantastic mash up of hex, shreds, tinsel and maybe some diamonds or squares….the only thing I would have done differently, would be having two layers of topcoat instead of just one.

Silly Lily Polish – Black n Red n Matte All Over …Review/Swatches

These Silly Lily polishes I received the other day, are so super cute!  I keeping promising myself I will only try on one a day …… let’s just say – will power is not my strength.   So, here’s another one!!

Black n Red n Matte All Over  polished over Zoya Purity, with a Seche Vite topcoat.

As with any glitter polish with chunky sized glitter, the pieces had to be maneuvered a bit so they didn’t bunch up and overlap too much.  But, the quantity of “stuff” that came out after each brush dip was a perfect amount.

IMG_3510I messed up with my pinky finger….after the first coat, I decided to try for a second, and clearly….this polish does NOT need a second coat.  One coat is just enough to show off what the polish contains, and two coats is overload.

In this (above) photo – you can see what happens when you rush and spread the top coat over too quickly….bubbles.  Take it slow, and brush smoothly towards the tip of the nail.  I was hurrying, and dabbing in places trying to smooth out some bumps showing from the glitter.  Don’t do this 🙂  Two thin layers is better than one thick globby, bubbly layer 🙂

Final say on this particular polish…I love it, I really, really do!  In fact, I have been looking for, and attempting to recreate something almost exactly like this since the summer.

And someday soon, I hope to have more time to give it the manicure it deserves 🙂

With the challenge going on, I don’t think I will get a chance to show them off on my nails,  in a post until the weekend….but check these out!
